IPL Big Upset: KKR Captain Dinesh Karthik Hands over Leadership to Eoin Morgan

The 13th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently ongoing in the United Arab Emirates. The final will be played on November 10.

Dinesh Karthik, current captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has handed over the leadership rights to Eoin Morgan. Morgan is the captain of England’s world cup winning team. Dinesh Karthik handed over him the captaincy on Friday.

KKR released a statement on this in which they stated that Karthik wants to focus more on his batting.

Under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik, KKR performed well and right now stands on the 4th position on the IPL Points Table. KKR won 4 matches out of 7 and have 8 points.

Disneh Karthik has scored 108 runs in 7 innings.

Many Kolkata fans wanted this decision and finally Dinesh Karthik decided to do so. The franchise issued a statement on microblogging website Twitter on Friday afternoon.

KKR team is ready to take on Mumbai Indians on Friday.

“We are fortunate to have leaders such as DK, who has always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes. We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice captain, is willing to lead the side going forward,” Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR said.

Kolkata Knight Riders have performed really well in this season and Morgan will bring more consistency to the team performance.
