The defending champions have Chris Lynn on their squad list but Jayawardene said there is no need to “fix something that wasn’t broken”.

Rohit Sharma said during an online conference “ I opened in the entire tournament last year and I will continue to do that. I keep all the options open – whatever the team wants (I’m) happy to do that. I enjoy batting (at) the top of the order, I have been doing it for a while.

Rohit Sharma and De Kock played 15 matches for Mumbai Inbdians (MI) as opener in IPL 2019 and scored 565 runs including five fifties at an average of 37.66. They are just behind Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, who scored 791 runs.

However, Chris Lynn scored only 138 runs as opener for playing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL 2020. In nine innings Lynn’s average was 17.26 and his highest score was 34.

Jayawardene stated about Lynn in the virtual press conference “ Lynn is a great addition to the squad, but the combination of Rohit and Quinton did a phenomenal job for us last season,”

“Lynn as an option gives us flexibility in the squad and that’s what we’ve always done. We try to add more value to the team, give more options so that we can be unpredictable when it comes to tournaments and big matches. Quinton and Rohit as a combination have been brilliant.” he added

Hitman Sharma has not played any game since February due to his calf injury, On the other hand De Kock, Mi’s leading run scorer in IPL 2019 will also play his first match against Chennai Super Kings after six months.
