From the second week of December 2020, the 10th edition of the world-famous KFC Big Bash League is all set to commence. Big Bash League is a famous Men’s T20 domestic cricket tournament in Australia. In the 10th edition of BBL, there will be 61 matches to be played between the domestic teams.
Also, the next month, the Indian Cricket team is going to tour Australia for four tests and one day internationals, so many Australian players are going to miss BBL this year.
The Big Bash League was started back in 2011 when the Australian Cricket Board dissolved six state teams and started eight new franchises in Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat, and Adelaide Strikers.
Exclusively, this year, Big Bash has announced that the clubs will get three international players instead of two. Since the start of the league in 2011, clubs were allowed to take two international players in their starting playing XI. The purpose of this restriction was to promote local players. With the introduction of three International players the squad will increase the size of the squad from 16 to 19.
BBL Stated on their Twitter “Third international spot added to BBL 10 squads. Clubs can play three overseas players at once for the first time,“
Alistair Dobson is the head of Cricket Australia Big Bash League, he stated that this step has been taken to add more spark in the BBL|10 this year. He said cricket fans are nowadays more interested to watch international players around the world. The same statement is true for Indian Women in USA Cricket.
“The introduction of a third overseas player slot is a major milestone in the evolution of the KFC Big Bash League and a fitting way to celebrate the League’s tenth season. We know our fans want to watch the best players from around the world and this week, we’ve added three of the best in Dawid Malan, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, plus a host of other top players. Now we’ve given our clubs the license to bring even more of these overseas stars to Australia,” Dobson said.
Indian Players in Big Bash League 2020 – 2021
Also, reports said that the BBL franchises are anxious to get three Indian Players namely MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh. MS Dhoni and Raina have announced their retirement from international cricket back in August 2020 before the start of the Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL) while Yuvraj Singh has already retired in June 2019. So, all three players are free to join BBL|10. But both Dhoni and Raina will need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from BCCI to join Big Bash League 2020-21 in Australia as they are a part of active Indian Cricket while Yuvraj Singh is already eligible to join BBL.
