However, since India started playing the spin quartet of Bishan Singh Bedi, BS Chandrasekar, S Venkatraghavan and EAS Prasanna, the wickets were made spin-friendly. Taking a look at the stats gives you a clear indication as to what type of bowlers hold the aces on the Chepauk wicket. Renovation: With Madras Cricket Club (MCC) all set to reach an agreement with Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) for building a new stand for them, MA Chidambaram Stadium is expected to sport a new look by the end of this year. TNCA wants to commence work soon after the upcoming IPL.

M. A. Chidambaram Stadium Stands:

The three stands, I, J and K have not been in use since 2011 for the legal tussle, right after the stadium was renovated. In 2015, the Supreme Court of India ordered the demolition of parts of the adjoining Madras Cricket Club (MCC) to create eight meters of setback space between it and the K-stand. Following it, the TNCA will follow the High Court’s door for the reopening of three empty stands which have a total capacity of 12000.

Entry is not allowed from some gates for the audience as the renovation is under process.

Case of closing three stands

The three stands in Chepauk have been under legal issues since their construction. The High Court in Madras put a stay on the use of those stands as TNCA altered with the assessment report for those stands. In fact, a criminal case was also issued against TNCA by the High Court in 2013. The main reason for the tussle is the gymnasium of the Madras Cricket Club (MCC) adjoining the stands. In 2015, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of parts of the stands and asked the TNCA to send out the plan to the Chennai Municipal Corporation.

Pavilion terrace

After the IPL, the MCC will demolish its pavilion and the club building and construct new structures in their place. “The existing buildings have become old,” said Ramesh.
