Update: For the season of Indian Premier League 2022, the Indian Board of Control of Cricket is planning to add one more franchise. According to the resources, the IPL 2022 could feature the ninth team. The main purpose to add a ninth team is to achieve financial goals as BCCI suffered a lot of pecuniary loss due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

Points Table
According to the BCCI Rules and regulations, eight teams will play 60 matches against each other. Every team will play 14 matches against each other and after playing 14 league matches the top 4 teams will go for the qualifier. If the two teams have the same points, then their fate will be decided on the Points Table with the Net Run Rate (NRR).
How to calculate Net Run Rate (NRR)? NRR in any match is the average number of runs that a team scores per over, minus the average number of runs scored against it per over.

In the 2020 IPL, the opening ceremony was not held due to the Coronavirus but there are chances the opening ceremony of the 2022 IPL will occur.
